Cuenca City Tour

We took a double-decker tour of the city.  The weather was beautiful.  Cuenca has a very European feel.  It reminded me of the French Quarters very much but without a Cafe du Monde.  Hey, maybe I can go open the first beignet shop in Cuenca!  Notice the red tile roofs on the houses...this is something you only see in Cuenca in all of Ecuador.  It adds a beautiful splash of color.

Most of their markets are named  after a date.

Ecuadorians are the original creators of the Panama hat.  They exported them to Panama during the construction of the Panama Canal.

If you look next to the gate, you can see a whole roasted pig!  They sell it by the slice.

Fresh fruits and veggies are abundant and inexpensive since the majority is locally grown.  Whole pineapples sell for $.84 each!

The first restaurant we went to upon arriving in Cuenca.  Their Mexican food was pretty good!

A stilt walker in the plaza...felt like Jackson Square in the Quarters of N.O.
